Step 1: Cutting

In making this tablerunner I used three FQs for my colors 1, 2 and 3 and a half yard cut of fabric for the background. I ended up with leftovers, so that should be an appropriate amount for you to start out with — but I suggest aiming to have a bit more than I suggest — just in case.


Here are the fabrics I’ll be working with:

They are all shimmery and unfortunately I discovered too late, my camera and shimmery fabrics don’t mix well — so I’ll ask that you forgive some of the pictures with less than stellar color quality 🙂

Background: Ivory
Color #1: Purple
Color #2: Blue
Color #3: Pink

Cutting Instructions:

Background:

  • Cut one 10″ Square
  • Cut fourteen 4″ Squares for HSTs*
  • Cut four 4 1/4″ Squares
  • Cut four 3 1/2″ Squares
  • Make sure you have some 2″ x 38″ strips left over — you’ll cut these to the length of the table runner once you know what that length is (Everyone’s table runner will vary a little bit, which is why I’m not providing this exact number)

Color #1:

  • Cut eight 4″ Squares for HSTs*
  • Cut two 4″ Squares
  • Cut two 4″ Squares
  • Cut one 4 1/4″ Square

Color #2:

  • Cut four 4″ Squares for HSTs*
  • Cut four 4″ Squares
  • Cut two 4 1/4″ Squares

Color #3:

  • Cut two 4″ Squares for HSTs*
  • Cut two 4″ Squares
  • Cut one 4 1/4″ Square

* I use the method described as Method #1 at QuiltPox.com to make my HSTs, if you use a different method, your cutting instructions may vary.
