I started this quilt, oh, twenty years ago? That’s when I first designed it and picked up the fabric for it, but right around the time I finished the blocks with the dragons and the gold stars I got distracted by another shiny and stopped working on it.

A few years later I picked it up and did some more work on it, which is when I discovered I was really short on the red fabric and it was going to be tricky to pull the quilt together as originally designed. I thought I could do it, though, if I was really careful.

I got much of it sewn together that time — sort of the core bits — everything but the last rows on each side. Then another distraction came along.

I started a Patreon sometime after that and one of the patron tiers is called ‘Dragons’ and the one person who supports me at that level loves dragons. It had always been in the back of my mind that if I finished this I could send it to her and she’d like it, but it still stayed on the back burner until last month.

I pulled it out to finish it but, one miscut later I didn’t have enough of the red fabric to finish it as I’d originally intended so I had to improvise a little bit but I am very pleased with the end result.

I shipped it off to my Dragon patron. It’s supposed to arrive at her house today. I hope she likes it 🙂
